Twenty-six social studies education students and three elementary education students were in attendance. Students, alumni and faculty were among the presenters.

Teacher candidates attend the conference as a professional development requirement for the program to expose them to the broader world of social studies education.

鈥淏y attending this conference, our teacher candidates see the bigger, broader world of education beyond the classroom space of a school,鈥 Dr. Serina Cinnamon, program director.

The presenters included undergraduates Santevia Reaves and Allison Roberts and graduate students Shea Ronson, Ronnie Stacy and Harold Feliciano-Soto. Topics ranged from social-emotional learning to American slavery.

鈥淲e have beginning teachers presenting on inquiry-based learning because of the rigor and teachings in the SSE program,鈥 said History Department Chair Dr. Jaime Martinez.

Alumna Krystal Cole also presented with Dr. Cinnamon and alumnus Eugene 鈥淭re鈥 Smith, who won the NCCSS Middle School Teacher of the Year award.
