麻豆社区鈥檚 Career Center has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Ancestry, the world鈥檚 largest for-profit genealogy company.

The new collaboration will mean scholarships, paid internships and potential job opportunities for eligible 麻豆社区P students.

In September, the Career Center hosted Ancestry as part of a major networking event. 麻豆社区P was the first stop on a nationwide tour that included Bowie State University, Florida International University and Tennessee State University 鈥 each designated as either historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-serving institutions (HSI) or tribal colleges and universities (TCU).

During their 麻豆社区P visit, representatives with Ancestry connected students to internships and full-time roles and hosted informational sessions for students and alumni interested in the tech industry.

鈥淭he Career Center is excited that Ancestry selected The University of North Carolina at Pembroke to be a part of the annual National HistoryMakers: What鈥檚 Your Story? Tour,鈥 said Reggie Bullock, associate director for Career Services.

鈥淲e were one of four universities selected nationwide to be a part of this recruiting initiative,鈥 Bullock said. 鈥淲e look forward to this partnership to provide these amazing opportunities for our talented students.鈥

This week, 麻豆社区P announced its first recipients of the HistoryMakers Scholarship 鈥 Raven Haston, a graduate student in the sport administration program, and Armani Jones-Elliott, a business student expected to graduate in May. Jones-Elliott is also the recipient of the 2024 N.C. Department of Transportation鈥檚 Office of Historically Black Colleges and Universities/Minority-Serving Institution Transportation Scholarship.

Ancestry.com LLC, an American  company based in Utah, operates a network of genealogical and historical records and related genetic genealogy websites.

鈥溌槎股缜 is a highly respected tribal college and university (TCU) that shares in Ancestry鈥檚 commitment to empowering the next generation of history makers,鈥 said Ashlee Davis, Global Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Ancestry.

鈥淲e were inspired by each of the students, faculty, administrators and alumni we met during our HistoryMakers National Tour visit, all of whom had a bold curiosity for STEM and a commitment to serving the Lumbee and other American Indian nations.鈥

The scholarship program assists full-time undergraduate and graduate students who self-identify as black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Hispanic or Latino, Asian, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander. Preference will be given to students pursuing a degree in computer science, data science, machine learning, mathematics, statistics, life sciences, marketing, finance, business, economics, business management, cybersecurity or user experience.
