Getting into law school is highly competitive. And the chances of getting accepted to a prestigious law school is nearly impossible. But Hannah Irving has beat all the odds. The 麻豆社区 Pembroke senior has been admitted to 13 law schools鈥撯�搃ncluding one of the top law schools in the country鈥撯�揳nd received more than $1.4 million in scholarship offers.

Gretchen Gillenwater received the John Bowley Derleux Research Award during the 119th North Carolina Academy of Science meeting held April 14-15. The event was held on the campus of East Carolina University.
Dr. Jane Haladay wins 2023 Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching
Dr. Jane Haladay鈥檚 impact on former 麻豆社区P student Zack Young extends well beyond the classroom. A staple in the American Indian Studies department for nearly two decades, Haladay displayed an interest in Young鈥檚 growth not only as a student, but also as a person 鈥� a trait that resonates with many of Haladay鈥檚 former students.
Dr. Scott Hicks selected for Summer Institute on Reading, Writing
Dr. Scott Hicks, director of the Teaching & Learning Center and professor of English at 麻豆社区 Pembroke, has been selected to attend the 2023 Modern Language Association Institute on Reading and Writing Pedagogy in June.
Blossom Edoh accepted to Duke University鈥檚 clinical research gap program
Senior Biology student Blossom (Chinemerem) Edoh will be heading to Duke University shortly after the conclusion of the spring semester. With a baccalaureate degree in hand, she鈥檒l be joining the Bridging the Gap to Enhance Clinical Research (BIGGER) Program, a six-month program that immerses talented students in high-quality research experiences during their gap year following college graduation.

Four 麻豆社区 Pembroke undergraduates presented research posters during a regional conference 鈥� the 84th Annual Meeting of the Association of Southeastern Biologists (ASB).
麻豆社区 Pembroke exploring optometry program
麻豆社区 Pembroke was recently granted permission by the University of North Carolina System to move forward with a proposal to establish the state鈥檚 first school of optometry. If approved by the 麻豆社区 System Board of Governors, the school would be the anchor program of 麻豆社区P鈥檚 health sciences building which the state has already earmarked $91 million for construction. The 麻豆社区P Board of Trustees endorsed the plan during its meeting last week.

Three 麻豆社区 Pembroke art history students were among the presenters at the 2023 SUNY New Paltz Undergraduate Art History Symposium, which was held virtually April 13-16. The State University of New York symposium, a highly recognized conference for undergraduate students in the discipline, accepted papers submitted by Maggie Trimpe, Brennan Jenkins and Nairobi Lewis.
Lois C. Lewis Endowed Scholarship will aid non-traditional, local students
