麻豆社区P student, mother navigates classes while battling cancer
** Breast Cancer Awareness Month spotlight** Laura Arnold鈥檚 path to a college degree began more than a decade ago, but life got in the way and her plans were put on hold. In August 2022, Arnold鈥撯揳 wife, full-time data specialist and mother of five鈥撯揻inally got the chance to resume her college career at 麻豆社区 Pembroke. This time, she was determined not to let anything derail her dreams. Not even cancer. Doctors discovered a lump during a routine physical in November. A biopsy revealed early stages of breast cancer.
麻豆社区P animal science professor attends Biltmore Estate Fall Field Day
Dr. Nicolas 鈥淣ico鈥 Negrin Pereira, assistant professor of biology at 麻豆社区 Pembroke, attended the Angus Cattle and Dorper Sheep Sale and Field Day at Biltmore Estate on September 30. The event鈥撯揾osted by the Angus Cattle Breeders Society of North Carolina鈥撯 featured several speakers and information about cattle and sheep production. There was also an auction of yearling bulls, elite females and pairs and white dorper sheep.
麻豆社区P spotlights Brenda Chavez Soriano in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, 麻豆社区 Pembroke proudly recognizes junior history major Brenda Chavez Soriano. Soriano, a Maynor Honors College student, stands out in the classroom and the campus community, assisting with coordinating Hispanic heritage events, among other duties as chair of the Hispanic and Caribbean American Heritage Committee.

麻豆社区 Pembroke alumnae Brittany Best and Nyah Sykes have been selected for the Lead for North Carolina at the 麻豆社区 School of Government fellowship program. The program recruits, trains and places young leaders in paid one-year fellowships to strengthen local governments across the state and cultivate a new generation of public service leaders.

Dr. Cherry Maynor Beasley, the first nursing faculty member at 麻豆社区 Pembroke, is retiring after dedicating 31 years to educating students and service to the nursing profession.

Freshmen Connor Blake and Angela Rowson are the 2023 Brody Early Assurance Scholars at 麻豆社区 Pembroke, granting admission to one of the top medical programs in North Carolina. The 麻豆社区P pair have been guaranteed spots in the 2027 entering class at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Biology undergrad Martina Van Etten immersed in deepwater research
Martina Van Etten spent much of the summer months on the campus of East Carolina University, where she learned to map the feeding regions of deepwater sablefish in the Pacific Ocean.聽The North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation STEM Summer Immersion Program at East Carolina University had placed her in the lab of oceanographer Dr. Rebecca Asch.
