麻豆社区 Pembroke professor Scott Hicks and alumna Olivia Sadler are finalists for a 2022 AASHE Sustainability Award recognizing outstanding scholarship in higher education. The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) announced that 鈥淎 Survey of Environmental Attitudes and Knowledge of University Undergraduate Students for the Purpose of Faculty Development in Teaching and Learning for Sustainability鈥 is among the finalists in the Campus Sustainability Research category.

Jennifer McCarrel has been named chief communications and marketing officer at 麻豆社区 Pembroke. McCarrel, a seasoned communications professional, brings more than 14 years of marketing and communications experience in the public sector, mainly in higher education. She has a proven track record in crisis communications, content creation, public and media relations, brand development, social and digital media, and integrated marketing. She currently serves as executive director of marketing and communication at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

Kaloni Walton felt a sense of belonging after meeting with the American Indian Heritage Center at 麻豆社区 Pembroke as a high school senior two years ago. It was this unique connection that impacted her decision to enroll. Walton was among the guest speakers during the grand opening of The Curt and Catherine Locklear American Indian Heritage Center before an overflow crowd in front of the steps of Old Main on Tuesday. Walton, now a sophomore, shared how the center has impacted her academic journey.

Four distinguished 麻豆社区 Pembroke alumni were honored at the 54th annual Alumni Awards & Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony on Friday, October 28. This year鈥檚 recipients are Vanessa Gonzalez (Distinguished Alumni Award), Paul Willoughby Jr. (Outstanding Alumnus), Dr. Ethan Sanford (Young Alumni Award) and Dr. Kennedi Stewart Henry (Young Alumni Award). The late Hampton Brayboy and his wife, Pattie, were posthumously recognized during a special presentation. The ceremony was held at the Upchurch Auditorium at James A. Thomas Hall.

The 麻豆社区 Pembroke School of Education and the Old Main STREAM Academy (OMSA) will be participating in the inaugural North Carolina Educator Pipeline Collaborative cohort, along with six other teacher preparation partnerships,聽to continue to be as effective and innovative as possible in recruiting and preparing educators to enter the state鈥檚 workforce.

麻豆社区 Pembroke seniors Samuel Bowen and Kiarra Payton earned the Outstanding Educational Session Award during the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA) South Regional Conference. The event was held in Atlanta, Ga., from September 29 to October 1.
		Former elite student-athletes to headline Fall Speaker Series
A star-studded alumni panel of former standout student-athletes will kick off a new speaker series presented by Campus Engagement and Leadership at 麻豆社区 Pembroke on October 20. Pardon Ndhlovu, one of the most decorated athletes in the history of 麻豆社区P cross country, will join former All-American volleyball player Melanie Grooms Garrett and Air Force Colonel and former baseball star Carlos Berdecia for the first of several engaging, thought-provoking discussions.

Current and incoming 麻豆社区 Pembroke students interested in pursuing a doctoral degree in pharmacy may be eligible for guaranteed admission to 麻豆社区 Eshelman School of Pharmacy, the nation鈥檚 top-ranked pharmacy program.聽聽 麻豆社区P and 麻豆社区-Chapel Hill have established an Early Assurance Program聽partnership with 麻豆社区 Eshelman School of Pharmacy, creating a seamless pathway for pre-pharmacy students.
		麻豆社区P faculty selected for BRIDGES academic leadership program
Five 麻豆社区 Pembroke leaders have been selected for the 麻豆社区 System鈥檚 BRIDGES Academic Leadership Program for Women. It was the largest number selected from 麻豆社区P in the 30-year history of the program. A kickoff meeting was held September 9-10 at the Rizzo Center in Chapel Hill.
麻豆社区P alumnus, FAEL participant appointed director of federal programs
Philip Oxendine, 2021 First Americans鈥 Educational Leadership (FAEL) cohort alumnus, was recently appointed as the director of federal programs with the Public Schools of Robeson County.聽 In his role, Oxendine will be responsible for making recommendations for assisting schools within the district to develop federal programs and services for continuous improvement. Additionally, he will help to provide school leaders with developments in curriculum, research-based instructional strategies and professional development. Oxendine is a two-time graduate of 麻豆社区P.
