麻豆社区P students serve Indigenous communities in Baltimore during Alternative Spring Break

More than a dozen 麻豆社区 Pembroke students immersed themselves in service projects and leadership-building activities as part of an alternative spring break experience in Baltimore March 6-10. Students and staff partnered with several community-based organizations, spending a week volunteering at the Baltimore American Indian Center, Native American LifeLines, Breath of Life Lutheran Church and Baltimore Safe Haven. Baltimore is home to many Lumbee tribal members who migrated north after World War II seeking jobs.

麻豆社区P to offer Doctor of Nursing Practice program

麻豆社区 Pembroke has received approval from the 麻豆社区 Board of Governors to establish a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a population health focus. The innovative program 鈥 the university鈥檚 first-ever doctoral program 鈥 will help reverse the shortage of health care professionals in underserved areas of the state and improve population health, individual patient experiences and health outcomes.

Peace Corps Director Carol Spahn visits 麻豆社区P, signs prep program MOA

Yamil Hern谩ndez S谩nchez always knew he wanted to join the Peace Corps after forming lasting relationships with volunteers while living in Benin in high school.聽 鈥淚鈥檝e always been passionate about advocacy,鈥 said S谩nchez, a senior at 麻豆社区 Pembroke. 鈥淚 met the (Peace Corps) director of Benin and volunteers, and they all described their experiences and how much being in Peace Corps helped them set up the next few years of their lives.鈥

麻豆社区 Pembroke was well represented at the 2023 North Carolina Council for Social Studies Education Conference in Greensboro, held March 2-3. Twenty-six social studies education students and three elementary education students were in attendance.

Denise Bostick-Fairley, a member of the inaugural class of the play therapy graduate certificate program in the Department of Counseling at 麻豆社区 Pembroke, has earned the Registered Play Therapist (RPT) credential from the Association for Play Therapy.

麻豆社区 Pembroke student leaders Timothy Moore and Aspen Andersson were among the presenters at the 2023 IMPACT Conference held at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst February 23-26. Their presentation focused on incorporating a student engagement model within the service-learning curriculum, which helps shape 麻豆社区P faculty and staff into service-learning catalysts.
