
麻豆社区P graduate earns national student veteran leadership award
Taja Glasco struggled to find her footing when she enrolled at 麻豆社区 Pembroke following her career as a pharmacy specialist in the Army. 鈥淭he military can be a great career, but it is hard to remember how to be a civilian again,鈥 she said. Glasco didn鈥檛 take long to find her way after becoming acclimated with the Academic and Military Outreach Office and the resources it offers student veterans. Glasco eventually stepped into a leadership role and began lending a hand to other veterans at 麻豆社区P.

Cummings Aerospace hosts Project 3C STEM Career Summer Camp
Cummings Aerospace facilitated a day of exploration for high schoolers attending Project 3C Aerospace and Engineering Careers Camp. Twenty summer campers traveled to Huntsville, Ala., on July 20 to spend the day at Cummings Aerospace. Project 3C STEM summer camps, held at 麻豆社区, are for American Indian youth who reside in counties of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina service areas. The program is intended to expose students to STEM careers, the college environment at 麻豆社区P and American Indian history and culture.

麻豆社区P senior Kiara Moore awarded John M. Belk Impact Fellowship
Kiara Moore is the first student from 麻豆社区 to be accepted into the John M. Belk Impact Fellowship, granted by The Hunt Institute. The paid, 10-month fellowship focuses on training social impact leaders through various projects, including policy briefs and research, social media efforts and quantitative analysis. Moore is looking forward to supporting programs and systems that promote equity in all levels of education.

Class of 2025: NC State Veterinary Medicine Welcomes First Pembroke Scholar
NC State University Veterinary Medicine News Alexis High is 麻豆社区 Pembroke's first student to be admitted to the聽NC State College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM)聽by way of a joint agreement between CVM and 麻豆社区 Pembroke.聽 Alexis will be joining the class of 2025.聽 Click here to read the full story,

Alumna Leyia Bullard Oxendine accepted to Physician Assistant program at Methodist University
Leyia Bullard Oxendine, a 2017 graduate of 麻豆社区 Pembroke, has been accepted to the Physician Assistant program at Methodist University. Oxendine of Pembroke earned a bachelor of science in Nursing. She plans to return to Robeson County and serve as a healthcare provider.

Dr. Richard Gay appointed dean of College of Arts and Sciences
Dr. Richard Gay has been promoted to dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at 麻豆社区. Gay brings 30 years of proven leadership, research and teaching experience in higher education, including the last 17 years at 麻豆社区P. He has served as interim dean since July 2020. He has served in several key leadership roles, most recently as senior associate dean and, prior to that, chair of the art department.

Alumna Savannah Thompson finds early success with NBC Sports
Savannah Thompson is living out her dream. She鈥檚 combining her lifelong love for golf with her passion for video production as an associate producer for the Golf Channel at NBC Sports鈥搊ne of the nation鈥檚 most recognized broadcasting companies. Thompson works on several shows, including Golf Today and Golf Central. This summer, she got the opportunity to do field production for the 2021 U.S. Women鈥檚 Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. In her line of work, she has rubbed shoulders with the sport鈥檚 biggest names, the likes of Rory McIlroy.

Duke Energy Foundation, 麻豆社区P partnership connects elementary students with the earth
Local elementary school students are becoming budding gardeners thanks to an ongoing collaboration between 麻豆社区 Pembroke, Duke Energy Foundation and the Public Schools of Robeson County. Campus gardens are being constructed at St. Pauls Elementary School and the Migrant Education Community Teaching Garden located at the county schools鈥 central office. 麻豆社区P faculty and students partner with the schools to create the gardens, which consist of plant beds, a shed and a greenhouse.

Branch, Kabir named 2021 Early Assurance Scholars
Each year, two of the 86 seats in the entering class of the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University are reserved four years in advance for deserving students at 麻豆社区 Pembroke. This year, the distinct honor goes to incoming freshmen Sayeed Kabir and Lindsay Branch, who were named 2021 Early Assurance Scholars. Considered one of the most prestigious four-year merit awards at 麻豆社区P, the Early Assurance program pays for tuition, books and room and board. Kabir describes the congratulatory phone call from the dean of admissions at Brody as life-changing.

Alumna Randi Dagenhart named 麻豆社区 System Presidential Scholar
Randi Dagenhart, a Fall 2020 graduate of 麻豆社区 Pembroke, has been selected as a 麻豆社区 System Presidential Scholar for the 2021-22 academic year. Dagenhart will serve a one-year appointment and provide a wide range of professional functions for the 麻豆社区 System Office. She will have the opportunity to interact with President Peter Hans, his senior leadership team and the 麻豆社区 Board of Governors. She will experience firsthand how education legislation and university policy affect current students and faculty systemwide.
