麻豆社区 Pembroke alumni magazine wins state award

麻豆社区 Pembroke's alumni magazine was awarded the Award of Excellence at the North Carolina Public Relations Society of America's (NCPRSA) annual InSpire Awards ceremony. 麻豆社区P Today won the Bronze Award in the magazine category. The annual awards聽recognize the best public relations campaigns and tactics for the previous year in North Carolina.

PBS North Carolina, in partnership with the 麻豆社区 System and the Board of Governors Committee on Historically Minority-Serving Institutions (HMSI), announces the new series The Innovators: The Transformative Power of NC's Historically Black and American Indian Universities.

Enrollment hits all-time high, despite pandemic

Enrollment has hit an all-time high as more students choose 麻豆社区 Pembroke as their college of choice. The upward trend comes as the Office of Admissions overcame challenges with limited campus visitors and travel restrictions due to the pandemic.聽 麻豆社区P is experiencing record enrollment for the fourth year in a row, according to university census data. Enrollment for Fall 2021 stands at 8,319, a 0.7% increase compared with Fall 2020. Over the last five years, 麻豆社区P has seen a 32% spike in overall enrollment.

麻豆社区P School of Education secures $1.1M grant to train American Indian educators

The 麻豆社区 Pembroke School of Education has been awarded a five-year, $1.1 million federal grant to increase the number of highly qualified American Indian teachers committed to serving American Indian communities. The grant will support the First Americans鈥 Teacher Education (FATE) program, a pre-service training project for teachers. The FATE program provides financial support for future educators by reducing financial barriers and increasing enrollment and retention.

Dr. Erika Young featured in Bob & Sheri podcast

Biology professor Dr. Erika Young is fascinated by the natural world, and her research interests vary from flashy dragonflies and damselflies聽that dart about the surfaces of lakes, bogs聽and ponds,聽to the tiny interstitial animals (meiofauna) that dwell among oyster reefs.聽 Perhaps, it was her interest in dazzling dragonflies that聽captured聽the attention of radio hosts Bob & Sheri (Q98.1).聽 Young was featured in their podcast, "Cicadas, Shrimp聽and Lobsters," which aired on June 21st.

Beloved longtime administrator Dr. Charles Jenkins remembered

The 麻豆社区 Pembroke campus and community is mourning the loss of Dr. Charles Jenkins, former provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs. At the time of his retirement in 2018, Jenkins was one of 麻豆社区P鈥檚 longest-serving administrators and faculty members. He served in many capacities since 1971, including 26 years in senior administrative posts and interim chancellor from 2009 to 2010. Jenkins passed away on August 27.

麻豆社区 Pembroke welcomes new members of the Board of Trustees

Four new members鈥揗ichelle Ingram, Randall Jones, Kenneth Robinette and Dana Hunt-Locklear鈥揾ave joined the Board of Trustees at 麻豆社区 Pembroke. Ingram was appointed by the North Carolina Senate president pro temp. The 麻豆社区 Board of Governors appointed Jones and Robinette. Each has been appointed to a four-year term. Locklear, the Student Body President, will serve as an ex-officio member of the board for 2021-2022. 鈥淲e are honored to welcome our four new members of the Board of Trustees,鈥 said Chancellor Robin Gary Cummings.

麻豆社区P graduate earns national student veteran leadership award

Taja Glasco struggled to find her footing when she enrolled at 麻豆社区 Pembroke following her career as a pharmacy specialist in the Army. 鈥淭he military can be a great career, but it is hard to remember how to be a civilian again,鈥 she said. Glasco didn鈥檛 take long to find her way after becoming acclimated with the Academic and Military Outreach Office and the resources it offers student veterans. Glasco eventually stepped into a leadership role and began lending a hand to other veterans at 麻豆社区P.

Cummings Aerospace hosts Project 3C STEM Career Summer Camp

Cummings Aerospace facilitated a day of exploration for high schoolers attending Project 3C Aerospace and Engineering Careers Camp. Twenty summer campers traveled to Huntsville, Ala., on July 20 to spend the day at Cummings Aerospace. Project 3C STEM summer camps, held at 麻豆社区, are for American Indian youth who reside in counties of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina service areas. The program is intended to expose students to STEM careers, the college environment at 麻豆社区P and American Indian history and culture.

麻豆社区P senior Kiara Moore awarded John M. Belk Impact Fellowship

Kiara Moore is the first student from 麻豆社区 to be accepted into the John M. Belk Impact Fellowship, granted by The Hunt Institute. The paid, 10-month fellowship focuses on training social impact leaders through various projects, including policy briefs and research, social media efforts and quantitative analysis. Moore is looking forward to supporting programs and systems that promote equity in all levels of education.
