Aaron Woods鈥 eyes welled up with tears as he spotted his parents seated inside the English Jones Center gymnasium during the processional minutes before his name would be called at the Winter Commencement at 麻豆社区 Pembroke. At that moment, the Pembroke native reflected on the personal obstacles he had overcome in his decades-long journey to graduation.
麻豆社区P partners with Farm Bureau to expand agriscience research
Eric Schwarz gained insight into agricultural practices of third-world countries while serving in the military. When he retired, Schwarz decided to enroll in the emerging Agriculture Science program at 麻豆社区 Pembroke to study ways to make farming practices more sustainable. Today, Schwarz spends his time conducting research, growing hydroponic lettuce and investigating tomato cultivars inside a new 70-feet long high tunnel in the campus garden area.
麻豆社区P awarded $950K grant to establish addiction recovery center
麻豆社区 Pembroke has been awarded a $950,000, three-year grant from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust to create the Southeastern Prevention and Addiction Recovery Resource Center (SPARC) within the College of Health Sciences. Expanding on the current efforts of the Robeson County Health Care Corporation (RHCC) and Robeson County District Attorney鈥檚 Office, SPARC will provide a community-based effort to address the immediate and long-term substance use and recovery needs in the county.
麻豆社区 System President Hans to speak at 2021 Winter Commencement
麻豆社区 System President Peter Hans will deliver the keynote address at Winter Commencement at 麻豆社区 Pembroke. The undergraduate ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 11, in the main gym of the English Jones Athletic Center. The Graduate School ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 10, at Givens Performing Arts Center. Dr. Laura Staal, an award-winning professor of reading at 麻豆社区P, will serve as the keynote speaker.

麻豆社区 Pembroke Awarded $510K Grant to Expand Community Health Worker Initiative
麻豆社区 Pembroke has been awarded a $510,000 grant in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) to expand the state鈥檚 Community Health Worker (CHW) Initiative. The funds are part of the CDC鈥檚 National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion鈥檚 Community Health Workers for COVID Response and Resilient Communities.

Award-winning Native American author Tommy Orange to speak at 麻豆社区P
Tommy Orange, the author of the New York Times bestselling novel, There There, will speak at 麻豆社区 Pembroke as part of the 2021-2022 Distinguished Speaker Series. Orange will appear on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at 7 p.m. on the Givens Performing Arts Center stage.
麻豆社区P awarded grant to establish a counselor-in-residence program
麻豆社区 Pembroke has been awarded a $78,000 mental health grant to create a counselor-in-residence program. A full-time counselor will live in the residence halls and provide counseling services there. 麻豆社区P is among 12 麻豆社区 System institutions to receive grant funding to increase behavioral health capacity and strengthen mental health resources available to students starting this fall.
